Anne-Mie van Kerckhoven
09 September – 21 October 2000
„Prober5“ is the last and final series of Anne-Mie van Kerckhoven’s artistic project „headNurse“ and will combine 24 large-scale computerprints, texts and drawings as well as a video projection.
The project headNurse was initiated in 1995 in Bruges/Belgium as an incubation project that would be steadily developped. Every exhibition as part of the project headNurse dealt in a different way with the representation of „eroticized concepts“.
The origin of the headNurse-project, of the „erotiziced concepts“, which Anne-Mie van Kerckohoven refers to as a „sex- & technology project“, is based on confronting 96 images of women with 96 words stemming from referential books on artificial intelligence. Photo-
graphs of nude women, that the artist found in old magazines dating from the time before the sexual revolution of the early 70s, were the starting point for the entire project.
The following phases of the project dealt with ideas such as self-organisation, thermodynamics, non-equilibrium. The final part which is being presented at Galerie Barbara Thumm is dedicated to the representation of concepts and associations in general and plays with the reversible models of seduction. The nursing factor is: „Nursing care, and Fluid Intake“, the alchemic state is the one of sedimentation.
„Elasticity at home“ being the subtitle of the project, the main idea behind the transformation of the last 24 images is the value of continuity through solidification.
By devoting the entire project to the goddess Baobo, Anne-Mie van Kerckhoven immediately refers to feminist approaches of the 70s to develop both a female language and artistic expression that would transform the melancholy and depression of the oppressed into joy, or – as Nancy Spero would call it – a „Jouissance of femininity“.
