I Can`t Remember When it Started, 2020
The digital monitors tracking footage plays and is moving at the speed it was shot at on tracks in the CLOUD experiment in CERN. Since 2009, this particular experiment “Cosmics Leaving Outdoor Droplets (CLOUD)” is being run at CERN by a group of researchers led by Jasper Kirkby to investigate the microphysics between galactic cosmic rays (GCRs) and aerosols under controlled conditions. Like most of the experiments at CERN everything you physically see in there, is too large and too late to be perceived; what is analysed is invisible, behind steel and in the past.
This project would not be possible without making the commission „Everything Happens Once“ for Arts at CERN, curated by Mónica Bello. Curator and Head of Arts at CERN and funded by the partnership with Odonata Fund, a special fund of the Didier and Martine Primat Foundation.
Thank you also goes to Jasper Kirkby and his team at the CLOUD experiment and Simone Einfalt who helped with getting this version online with Galerie Barbara Thumm. I very much thank Ben Jones for photography, the engineers Christian Eaton and Joe Dusta, and Uná McCarthy for commissioning a new body of drawings and paintings for the SEDIMENT exhibition at the Limerick City Gallery of Art in 2019.
