The Barbara Thumm Gallery is delighted to present ‘Cardinal Directions’ by Georgian artist Anna K.E. in Space II.

‘Cardinal Directions’ is the title of a current series of enamel works that were previously shown at the Kunstmuseen Krefeld/Haus Lange – Haus Esters in the solo exhibition ‘Für unsere Eltern’ (For Our Parents) (2024-2025).

With enamel, the artist has revived a traditional production process. In this process, glass powder is melted at high temperatures, creating a homogeneous, shiny surface after cooling. The abstract patterns and colour combinations reference traditional Georgian patterns and are free experiments with the aim of generating energy in the space. Anna KE uses intense colours and striking structures reminiscent of mandalas. The different triangular formations form a reference system. It locates the exhibition space, as well as its visitors, in a universal geographical and social space.

Anna K.E. represented Georgia at the 58th International Art Exhibition in Venice in 2019. In the context of the two exhibitions at the Kunstmuseum Krefeld and the solo exhibition ‘Dolorem Ipsum’ at the Kestner Gesellschaft Hannover, a joint catalogue is being produced, which will also be available at the gallery during the exhibition.
