People make their hopes, cling to them, lose hope, gain new hope or despair hopelessly. But what does hope mean?

In the last part of its exhibition trilogy „Faith, Love, Hope“, the Draiflessen Collection devotes itself to the concept of hope as a principle of openness to possibilities that are not (yet) available. Artistic positions from the 20th and 21st centuries, including works by Michael Buthe, Duane Michals and Fritz Winter, make ambiguity and possible contradictions clear: Is hope the confidence that „everything is fine“ or rather blind misbelief? Is she strengthening or not even paralyzing her? The exhibited works show that in the process of hoping the boundaries of knowledge, experience and consciousness shift, that they can be crossed or completely dissolved. Through the medium of art, hope becomes an object of contemplation, self-questioning and discussion.
