From 17 November 2022 until 26 February 2023 – exactly five years after the successful exhibition ECCE HOMO (2017-2018) – Yasmine Geukens & Marie-Paule De Vil, in collaboration with Lien Craps & Eric Rinckhout organise FINIS TERRAE. A large-scale art walk with fifty contemporary Belgian artists at 13 locations in Antwerp, all working around one universal theme: our planet.
Cape Finisterre, a granite hill located in Galicia, marked for the Romans the end of their Empire and the earth, their Finis Terrae. Today, our world’s view reaches wider, yet the boundaries of our society, how it evolves and might ever end, is a question that humanity has asked itself since its inception. More than ever, global emergencies make us reflect on the limits of our world and the value of our planet. However, a crisis also sets minds in motion. For example, the corona pandemic generated increased awareness of the importance of health care or a green environment, and bottom-up movements (Youth for Climate, #MeToo, Black Lives Matter…) have joined forces to counterbalance problems that have been ignored for years.
