The in between is a space of neither here nor there. Perhaps it’s a space between leaving and arriving. One knows where they’ve been, but not necessarily where they are going. This is the meeting place of contemplation, mystery, faith, and hope: The things unseen.

Here I consider the space of the in between, a point of departure with the destination imagined, but unknown.
We do know is that Okwui died much too soon, we also know that while here he worked hard to engage the deepest part of his humanity and asked others to do the same. It was a remarkable life by any measure, leaving behind much along with 100 books in which he attempted by sheer will to reshape ‘all the world futures.’ With this installation that includes boat oars, flowers, cloth, photographs, books, sculpture, chairs, stools and audio and with book titles ranging from NKA: Giant Steps and Bold Moves to Allegations, Disagreements and Misconceptions, I seek, in some small way, to mark the meaning of his life.
