The collaboration begins in the summer of 2022: Thomas Zipp, an established, internationally successful artist and professor at the Berlin University of the Arts, encounters the work of the artist, who was born in Afghanistan in 1980, calls himself Kabul and has been living in Munich for several years. Fascinated by the power of his work, Zipp began to expand on the works of his fellow artist. The result is a dialog in which both artists react to each other’s works. It is usually Kabul who sends his canvases from Munich to Berlin, where Thomas Zipp stretches them out again and continues to work on them. For Kabul, art is also an important form of expression to confront his own traumas without having to verbalize them. It is the potential of art to find an expression that goes beyond language and, in this case, does not just have a single sender. The exhibition ASTRO DARK & BLINDING NICE AFGHANISTAN 1998 is the first joint exhibition of the two artists and the first presentation of this joint project.
