The Kenyan artist Kaloki Nyamai (born 1985 in Kitui) develops powerful visual worlds in his paintings and immersive installations, where traditional visual references intertwine with contemporary perspectives. Through multi-layered compositions and the intentional layering of shapes, symbols, and materials, Nyamai questions historical narratives and rewrites them from a distinctly present-day viewpoint. In the Calder Room of the Sprengel Museum Hannover, he presents three works that exemplify his artistic practice: they address issues of memory, cultural identity, and power, while simultaneously opening a dialogue between individual experience and collective history. The installation will open together with the exhibition „Horst Antes. A Collection.“
