The exhibition Imagine! at the Ducal Palace is curated by HS_Projets and Christine Bouilloc, Director of the Bargoin Museum, Clermont Auvergne Métropole, as part of the France-Portugal Season organized by the French Institute.
On the French side, the exhibition From skin to skin is presented at the Musée d’Art Roger-Quilliot in Clermont-Ferrand and has been prepared by Cláudia Melo, Artistic Director of Contextile, and Pauline Goutain, Deputy Director of the MARQ. Some artists placed their works in the palace without referring to the local textile pieces, while others were inspired by the narratives of the palace’s tapestries or the symbolic meaning of its oriental carpets.
Read moreGarance Alves, Lucile Drouet and Cécile Ndiaye created works in relation to the rooms: piles of shirts in one room, a leather shell in another, and a cork armor in the armory. Sabine Cibert, Majida Khattari and Roméo Mivekannin reacted to the Pastrana tapestries recounting the Portuguese colonial conquests in Africa. Arnaud Cohen questioned history in front of two Turkish carpets, while Rieko Koga made three embroidered works like talismans for our future, and Pascal Monteil worked around five emblematic characters of our common history. Finally, Joël Andrianomearisoa and the Sampedro Company created an infinite tablecloth designed to gather the spirits and know-how of this place (that has always welcomed more visitors than real inhabitants) around an imaginary meal.
These exhibitions are the first connection between two major international European textile events: Contextile, supported by Ideias Emergentes and the city of Guimarães, and the International Festival of Extra ordinary Textiles (FITE) initiated by HS_Projets and co-produced with the city of Clermont-Ferrand and the Bargoin Museum, Clermont Auvergne Metropole. This collaboration also celebrates their 10th anniversaries.
