When you enter the spatial installations by Berlin-based painter Thomas Zipp, you enter an associative cosmos of ideas that reaches out powerfully into the history of modern times and modernity with its utopias and visions of the future.

The title of the Mülheim show already indicates that the exhibition rocks, that no linear chains of history are shown here, but that questions are raised that – from the medieval memento mori to the invention of the light bulb and the atomic bomb to global mobility – place man in the present and with all his finiteness at the center of the considerations. Starting from the certainty that the past shapes the future, Thomas Zipp spreads out cultural ideas and philosophical thoughts before us from different perspectives and in a sombre atmosphere.
