Mukenge/Schellhammer has developed new works for Marta Herford. With the help of a virtual reality program, digital paintings were generated and transferred to the urban space of Kinshasa using augmented reality technology. The result is a complex interweaving of painterly, digital and real spaces. The resulting videos are ultimately embedded in a large-format painted sculpture in the museum. This three-dimensional image carrier allows the digital painting to be experienced spatially. In a final step, Mukenge/Schellhammer transfer the digital work to the canvas. The painting process takes place together and simultaneously. In this translation process, they question the changes, additions or even omissions that are transferred to the work during the back and forth change of media. Their performance Stretching the Notion of Painting will take place at the opening of the exhibition.
